The Science Olympiad is a prestigious event that brings together middle and high school students to engage in rigorous scientific challenges. Participating in the Science Olympiad provides students with a unique opportunity to engage in academic competition, fostering a deep interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This experience enhances their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and encourages teamwork and innovation. By challenging themselves in various scientific disciplines, students gain practical knowledge and confidence, preparing them for future academic and career endeavors in STEM fields.

The Science Olympiad is structured similarly to a track meet, with teams competing in a variety of events that encompass different scientific disciplines. Each team member participates in specific events, allowing them to showcase their expertise and contribute to the team's overall performance. Events span topics such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and earth science, among others. This year the Olympiad offered 23 events for Middle and High Schools to earn points and medals.

This year over 20 different schools were participating in the southeastern regional Science Olympiad event held at Marietta College. Some of the events are pre-build events where students build the project and take it and are judged in a competition such as helicopters, air trajectory, bungee jump, electric vehicle, and scrambler. The Science Olympiad is a great learning opportunity and a wonderful way for students who are excited about science to do something outside the classroom and get an idea of what they may want to do in college or as a career. This year the top 5 Middle School teams and the top 3 High School teams were advanced to state competition being held at Ohio State University. Eastern’s Middle School Team Neutrons placed 5th and are eligible to compete at the state level.
