For the third year in a row, our Eastern Eagles have proudly represented our school and community at The Ohio State University Student Leadership Research Collaborative.
In this collaborative, our students learn what it takes to complete a year-long action research project with the intent to better their school and community. If you are unfamiliar with an action research project, many people don’t even begin working on it until they are in graduate-level courses at a college or university. Our students are high school freshmen and sophomores identifying problems, analyzing published literature, creating surveys, conducting interviews, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, and presenting this information to an audience of their peers and the administration here at our school.
Each month, we watch our students become stronger, more confident leaders who are ready to tackle the problems that arise. They know how to use their voice in an effective way to make sure that all so thin their service are being heard.
This year, our first-year students are tackling learning styles in the classroom. Specifically, they are researching whether more active learning in the classroom leads to better student participation and outcomes. This week, they will go to The Ohio State University to work with students from across Ohio to analyze their data and begin recommending solutions.
Our second-year students consisting of two juniors and a senior are working closely with The Ohio State School Boards Association and the Kirwan Institute to research the cause for the national teacher shortage. They, too, have conducted literate reviews and have created a statewide survey. This week, they will begin analyzing data to recommend the next steps to many institutions of higher education.
Lastly, our year three seniors and working directly with Dr. Bell on creating meaningful mentorships for younger students and ways for students to receive college credit for participation in the amazing program.
We are beyond proud of these young students for their efforts and for the way they represent themselves, their families, their school, and their community.
Go Eagles!
