Mrs. Hopkins 4th grade class got a chance to learn about the American Revolution and our local ties from our school resource officer Joe Barnhart, who taught them about Fort Randolph and the vital role it played keeping the western frontier safe during the war.
Fort Randolph was located near the fork of the Ohio and Kanawha River in what is now Point Pleasant W.V. there is a reproduction of the fort located at Krodel park that is open to the public in the summer Memorial Day to labor day every Friday-Sunday 11-5.
Joe has served on the board of fort Randolph for over 7 years and currently serves as the Chair.
A reenactment of the Siege of Fort Randolph is put on every 3rd Saturday in May and is free to the public.
Living history presentations give students the opportunity to not just read about our nations rich history but actually see it in person. Giving a real experience to what otherwise would be nothing more than words on a page.
